POLICY ON THE USE AND DISSEMINATION OF IMAGES OF MINORS

This policy is part of the continuity of the PSEA Policy and the Scientific Code of Ethics already in force within the Network. It specifically outlines the conditions for the use and dissemination of images of children collected as part of our fieldwork.
ARTICLE 1 — FOUNDING PRINCIPLE: PHOTOGRAPHY AS A SCIENTIFIC METHOD
The Réseau EnfanceAfrique.org recognizes photography and ethnographic imagery as fully-fledged methodological tools of visual anthropology, on par with interviews or participant observation. This policy does not aim to restrict the scientific use of images, but rather to regulate the conditions under which they are publicly disseminated.
ARTICLE 2 — TWO DISTINCT USAGE REGIMES
The Network systematically distinguishes between two regimes of consent and use:
▸ Scientific and academic use: research, theses, scientific publications, academic communications, protected research archives not accessible to the general public
▸ Public dissemination use: publication on the enfanceafrique.org website, the Network's social media, and any communication material intended for the general public
Consent to scientific use does not automatically imply consent to public dissemination. These two forms of consent are collected and documented separately.
ARTICLE 3 — CONSENT REQUIRED FOR ANY PUBLIC DISSEMINATION
Any image of a minor intended for public dissemination is subject to a written Consent Attestation (AMAPISE/CONSENT-IMG), signed by the child's parent or legal guardian. This consent:
▸ Is given freely, without financial compensation
▸ Can be withdrawn at any time, without justification
▸ In the event of withdrawal, results in the removal of the image within 30 days
ARTICLE 4 — PROTECTION OF IDENTITY
When documented consent for public dissemination cannot be obtained, or as an additional precaution in situations of the most pronounced vulnerability, the Network applies one or more of the following measures: face blurring, framing that excludes identifiable features, or replacement with a contextual image that does not center on the child.
ARTICLE 5 — EDITORIAL RULES ON CAPTIONS
Captions accompanying images of children adhere to the following principles: factual description of the observed situation, absence of dramatizing or instrumentalizing language, and absence of any wording explicitly directing the image toward fundraising purposes.
ARTICLE 6 — RIGHT OF WITHDRAWAL
Any person photographed, or their legal representative if they were a minor at the time the photograph was taken, may request at any time the removal of an image concerning them, by writing to contact@enfanceafrique.org. This request is processed within 30 days, with no justification required.
ARTICLE 7 — RESPONSIBLE PARTY FOR IMPLEMENTATION
The implementation of this policy is the responsibility of the Network's President, in coordination with the already designated PSEA focal point. Any question regarding this policy may be addressed to contact@enfanceafrique.org.
